Well, it is that time.  The SBC 357 has done a fabulous job in the altered and it is now for sale on Racingjunk.com.  This will likely be our last motor built for the altered.  It will be a true blue SBC 406 with 4.125 x 3.75.  No hidden stroker motor here.  The Dart short block is complete and currently houses a Compstar Comet Crank with small journal rods (2.000") and standard 350 main journals.  The small journal rods are Compstar 6" and a set of hollow dome JE 14:1 pistons.  The bob weight on this setup is actually lighter than the small bore 357!  Of course, no nitrous, no boost, completely naturally aspirated with a Patrick Pro Systems Dominator Carb.  This is Patrick's Methanol friendly vacuum regulator setup.  It works!!  The heads started out as a set of Brodix Dragon Slayer 23 degree heads, but have been heavily modified by Eric at Weingartner Racing LLC.  Please visit these web pages and check them out!  The heads have been milled to ensure 64 cc, pushrod pinches welded, CNC ported, shaft-mounted T&D rockers, drilled for Stahl bolt pattern and equipped with the high-end valves controlled by PAC springs and titanium retainers.  Eric has also completely hand ported a Motown 4500 intake for me and he is including a set of mechanical roller Morel offset lifters.  It will keep the Cameron Converter powerglide and 6000 stall converter, along with the 4.56 gears in the back turning the Hoosier 33" slicks.  I am working with Bullet Cams now on finalizing the solid roller cam for this build.  What cam specs would you recommend?  The little 357 pushes the altered to 5.54 @ 123 MPH today and I really have no idea what we are looking at now, but I would be thrilled with 5.20's or low 5.30's around 130 MPH.
